Remote working became an integral part of the business during these covid times and employees have adapted to a new life and are operating from home working remotely under the lockdown.

As very few organisations had a culture of working from home, it came as a sudden culture change and lot of adjustments had to made to make work from home effective not just for the employers but also the employees.

Everyone has their own way of working from home and there are some perks as well as some disadvantages of working from home.

  1. How to make working from home more effective?

Physical Setup – the psychological effect is creating a work attitude of concentration. The workplace is also important for enhancing concentration. One should have the right attitude toward working from home and set up their corner from where they can work.

Planning and Targets – One should include targets and have plans and set deadlines to adhere to the goals as its easy to lose track and commitments while working from home and being virtually connected.

Working Hours – Adopting regular working hours and regular times for breaks is highly important. A To-do lists can help with organizing work.

Tidy Workplace – Using a clean and tidy desk will help concentrate and help in working effectively.

  1. Advantages and Disadvantages
  • Advantages: –
  • Work Home Balance – Working women would find it very difficult to maintain a balance between work and home. They have more responsibilities. So, doing work from home may help them coordinate the work while managing the home.
  • No Traffic – Being able to work from home and not having to worry about preparing very early and not getting stuck in traffic is one of the best benefits of working from home.
  • Low Level of Stress – Today if somebody is sick, they are available at home, they can get the love and support that they need. Working from home helps in relationship building and enhanced family time. Hence, they are less stressful.

 

  • Disadvantages: –
  • Isolation – Having no co-workers to work with or talk to, no face-to-face meetings, no bonding over breaks can make employees feel isolated and disconnected
  • Distractions – They might get easily distracted as they are doing their job from home.

 

  • Endless Work – Since they have the perks of doing their jobs from home with no restrictions on office hours, they might endlessly do the same. They may be expected to be available all the time.

 

III. How to increase work from home productivity?

Taking out some time over the weekend to plan for the coming week, preparing a to-do list of what is intended to be done the next day. Starting a day with a plan helps a person be productive.

Working remotely means we have the flexibility to work from home or any other place, it eliminates the commute time or other distractions at work yet it is very easy to get exhausted and overworked therefore we should do manage our time accordingly by timekeeping, it is important to take break it helps us feel re-energized.

Workspaces should be close to light say about near a window having an adequate amount of light in the workspace and the benefit here is that during the night time one does not stress the eyes too much.

The proper amount of sleep, about good 7-8 hours at night can really boost the level of productivity. Re-energizing and getting a night of good sleep is really important for mental health, also helps to stay focused and relaxed and not be too stressed.
